Drove over to a local place with free wifi and tested it - works just fine, so it's not the iPhone - it's the crappy Actiontec MI424WR router Verizon has forced me to use. Force-updated the firmware on the router and reset it to factory defaults. Tried everything with Apple tech support from forgetting the network to resetting the iPhone, even restoring it. So I get home and all of a sudden, the iPhone can see the home wifi network OK, but it times out trying to actually pull any data across the network. Got home, stopped off at a restaurant for lunch with free wifi and it worked perfect. Left for a two-week vacation in Ireland, England & France two days later and the iPhone worked great all the time. Bought my iPhone on opening day & wifi worked fine on my home network.
